Advocacy:
Advocacy is the deliberate process of influencing those who make policy decisions. Community and Welfare Sector engaged in advocacy based on evidence in order to positively affect the lives of low income and disadvantaged people. The advocacy could be done through various means including advertisement, negotiation, lobbying, rights, representing, meetings, media, newspapers, protests, drama, being a voice for others, campaign, influence behavior and awareness raising. A good advocacy plays an important role in improving the lives of people in a tangible way and satisfying and building the sense of efficacy. Advocacy is the active support of an idea or cause expressed through strategies and methods that influence the opinions and decisions of people and organizations. In the social and economic development context the aims of advocacy are to create or change policies, laws, regulations, distribution of resources or other decisions that affect people’s lives and to ensure that such decisions lead to implementation.
IDA’s advocacy strategy is quite strong to attaining its overall goal to reduce bonded labor. It has been organizing seminars, rallies and meetings to advocate bonded labor rights to the stakeholders and beneficiaries. Local and national electronic media is involved to through the messages to the community. IDA has developed posters on legal rights that are playing an important role in generating about labor rights and labor laws.
